Mr. Gerhard Pithan is a senior expert from SES Volunteers Experts Organization of Germany. Since 2005, he has been to the High-speed Wire Factory of Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Company three times to give guidance. His kind advice has solved a series of key problems concerning equipment. In the past, four gear boxes in this factory needed to be disassembled and changed of their bearings once every half year. Stopping production for equipment maintenance brought a huge damage to the profits of the factory. With Mr. Pithan’s guidance, Ma’anshan Iron and Steel Company succeeded in transforming these gear boxes, which resulted in the reduction of 72 hours of annual downtime. Thus, if 80 tons of steel per hour brought in 300 RMB per ton, we could create a benefit of 1.72 million RMB, saving an annual spare parts cost of half a million, totaling 2.22 million RMB in annual benefits.
